About La Latina

La Latina is the most castizo neighborhood in central Madrid. Its narrow cobblestone streets (Cava Baja, Cava Alta, Almendro) host centenary taverns still serving Sunday cocido. Plaza de la Cebada, Mercado de la Cebada (where Gelato Lab lives), Plaza de la Paja, San Francisco el Grande. Sundays bring El Rastro, Spain's most famous street market.

Why we recommend it

  • Cava Baja: Madrid's street with the most centenary taverns
  • El Rastro on Sundays (9am-3pm): Spain's most famous street market
  • Traditional cocido at historic restaurants (Casa Lucio, Posada de la Villa)
